December Update!

I can't believe it!It's already December! Wheew, time really flies.

But for the grace of God, yes for the grace of God, I am still here, alive and kicking. It was a few months ago that I thought to myself that I can't finish my MA studies. (That was during the 3rd phase). But here I am now almost in the middle of the 4th phase!Yes! Although at the onset, I said to myself "I wanna quit" not really quit but give up trying that's what I mean. But then when I shared my sentiments to one of our teachers. Her words of wisdom had lifted me and some other people cheered me up as well. I thank God for them.

So here I am now, struggling yet moving forward with Linguistic Field Methods and hoping to finish the phase (even not in flying colors). I would just rejoice with the mere fact that it would soon end,:). In this subject, we are suppose to produce a very Grammar Sketch of a certain language we are assigned to. This is kinda hard for me (as well as to most of my classmates which is a good thing for me knowning that I'm not alone :). Isn't that narcissistic or sadistic?Well, I (and some others in class) was assigned to analyze the Hakha Chin language of Myanmar. Learning the language is FUN but ANALYZING it is another story. Specially so on my part that that is my particular weakness: analysis (it includes Math, Trigo, Stat and all that). Waaaah!

But as I mentioned earlier, it is only by the grace of God that I am able to do these things. I thank God for His grace and marvelous works in me. For letting me see His beauty in all these.

In a few days time, we will be having our Christmas break which I will be enjoying very much (with my Hakha data with me , of course, along with my phonological and morphosyntax books :),). Praise the Lord for He has allowed us to experience the joy of His birth this season as well, as give the grace to be able to do things for our academic requirements.

Thank you for praying along with me for the following:
1. AGS Family Camp on Dec. 14-16. That I could attend it with the rest of the other memebers of the AGS family.
2. Our Annual Youth Camp to be held at Taloy Christian Fell. Church on Dec. 26-29, 2006.
3. For the wedding of our housemate (Thyra to Don) on December 20, 2006. That their needs be provided for the wedding as well as when they come back here in Manila as newlyweds. Thyra will continue her studies here at AGS and Don will start new minsitries with different churches as the Lord leads him to them.

4. That I will do my planned work plan this Christmas break, :). My assignment for Linguistic Field Works, visitation (family and friends) ,and attend camps.

Update

It was a long time since my last update of what has happened to me. The following includes details, items that I am thankful for as well as my ‘groanings’…lolz…So here it goes

Last May 2006, I came here in Quezon City to continue my studies and take my MA in Applied Linguistics. As I am writing this update, we had just culminated our 2nd phase of three phases for the first semester. So far these are the linguistics subjects that I had finished for the first two phases: Introduction to Linguistics, Phonetics and Language and Culture Acquisition (LACA). Other linguistics subjects offered were ‘Semantics’ and ‘Anthropology’ but I have had the privileged of taking in my diploma course. I have a subject that goes through out the whole semester; it is called ‘Doing Theology in Asia’. We are now in a week long break and after this we will start our 3rd and final phase for this semester with Grammar and Phonology (but I am also done with Grammar). So in the third phase, I will have ‘Doing Theology in Asia’ and ‘Phonology’ as my subjects.

A few highlights of the two phases that we just finished: Language learning – I had a great time with our Burmese friends who are very willing and helpful in any to us as we tried to understand and learn just a bit of their language. Friends ­– who celebrated their birthdays although the celebration was not that elaborate, the ice cream were just fine. Phase end activity ­– this is fun and double fun with the food…hehehe…Teachers – the privilege of having different teachers on each phase. Kudos to all of you!

(The paragraphs above were just a glimpse of what happened the following paragraphs would be a bit more detailed in some areas…)

During my first weeks here, I had a hard time (oh…alrigth not so hard I think) adjusting with some things such as the weather, with my housemates (we are seven in the house, 5 of us from the North, 1 from the South and 1 from the US of AJJJ) but eventually all became well after some rough and not so smooth timesJJJ. Although sometimes I make the lives of my housemates a little bit ‘miserable’…hehehe…I mean I make it more livelier by being ‘mean and nasty’ (as a friend of mine once described me…lolz), well that’s my opinion although my housemates would be soft on me…hehehe…they love me that’s why. Anyway, another adjustment was with my new set of classmates but of course I again won their hearts (that’s my opinion!) or the other way around. (Although some may not agree with my opinion, of course!JJJ). I also had a chance to go home last July in our place – to visit my family and attend a youth fellowship. During the youth fellowship, we had visitors from Canada for their mission trip. I had the opportunity of talking to some of them and learned that some of them knew my Hebrew teacher (he is teaching in their school and they came from the same place as well). I had a great time with them and as well with my friends. The following day (Sunday), I had a chance to meet my former youth pastor and two of my best friends for lunch. In the afternoon I went to attend a film showing…but before it started the pastor who is going to lead the film showing met an accident as they were coming to the place. He along with some of his cousins, my mom, two of my cousins and somebody else. Thank God that the car was stop by a tree before it fell into the ravine. Nobody was hurt and the equipments were all intact and eventually after they arrived the film showing pushed through with the people from that place attending. (Of course, there was a dramatic sharing of the accident.) I am personally thankful to God that He has not yet taken my mom that time. Anyway, I came back whole and safely here at Quezon City J. I was also very thankful for our Prayer Day in school that was held last August 25, 2006. It was a day just after our culmination of our second phase. I was still sleepy and tired but I made it a point to attend it. I was very much refreshed after that event and thankful that I did not miss it. It was really a very refreshing and wonderful time praying for the prayer items and spending time with God in a cozy ambience while a group of singers were singing as we are praying. I was also privileged to attend a wedding of a dear friend two weeks earlier (you can check my links for the pics).

Of all the these things that have happened in the past days of my life, I am thankful to God for His grace, strength, provisions and all the other things that He has given me and allowed me to experience. Looking forward to another challenging and wonderful time in the upcoming ‘phases’ of my life.

The Secret

Hello people...

Hi there, it's been awhile since I posted my last entry. Well there's not much to say (when I say this it means the other way around...lolz). We are now done with the first week of our second phase. I am taking up Language and Culture Acquisition and Doing Theology and Asia. Although I just have these two subjects, the LACA has many requirements as we are suppose to learn a new language and culture (Burmese-Haka).Our teacher in Doing Theo has gone ahead of age with still a sharp memory. Hope that I would be able to go through this phase well. I forgot to say that I was kinda disappointed with my grade in Phonetics. I'm mad at myself but I guess I feel better now although there are some residues (lolz). I am looking forward to going hone to the province at the end of this month. It coincides with a Youth fellowship which will be held in my hometown with Canadian visitors. I sure hope that I will have a good time visiting friends and family. Please pray for me. This Will Make You Cry...

Jenny was so happy about the house they had found.
For once in her life it was on the right side of town.
She unpacked her things with such great ease.
As she watched her new curtains blow in the breeze.
How wonderful it was to have her own room.
School would be starting;
she'd have friends over soon.
There'd be sleep-overs, and parties; she was so happy
It's just the way she wanted her life to be.
On the first day of school, everything went great.
She made new friends and even got a date!
She thought, "I want to be popular and I'm going to be,
Because I just got a date with the star of the team!"
To be known in this school you had to have a clout,
And dating this guy would sure help her out.
There was only one problem stopping her fate.
Her parents had said she was too young to date.
"Well, I just won't tell them the entire truth.
They won't know the difference; what's there to lose?"
Jenny asked to stay with her friends that night.
Her parents frowned but said, "All right."
Excited, she got ready for the big event
But as she rushed around like she had no sense,
She began to feel guilty about all the lies,
But what's a pizza, a party, and a moonlight ride?
Well the pizza was good, and the party was great,
But the moonlight ride would have to wait.
For Jeff was half drunk by this time.
She felt someone remove her from the twisted rubble,
And heard, call an ambulance!
These kids are in trouble!
Voices she heard...a few words at best.
But she knew there were two cars involved in the wreck.
Then wondered to herself if Jeff was all right,
And if the people in the other car was alive.
She awoke in the hospital to faces so sad.
"You've been in a wreck and it looks pretty bad."
These voices echoed inside her head,
As they gently told her that Jeff was dead.
They said "Jenny, we've done all we can do.
But it looks as if we'll lose you too."
"But the people in the other car!? "Jenny cried.
"We're sorry, Jenny, they also died."
Jenny prayed, "God, forgive me for what I've done
I only wanted to have just one night of fun."
"Tell those people's family, I've made their lives dim,
And wish I could return their families to them."
"Tell Mom and Dad I'm sorry I lied,
And that it's my fault so many have died.
Oh, nurse, won't you please tell them that for me?"
The nurse just stood there-she never agreed.
But took Jenny's hand with tears in her eyes.
And a few moments later Jenny died.
A man asked the nurse, "Why didn't you do your best?"
To bid that girl her one last request?"
She looked at the man with eyes so sad.
"Because the people in the other car
were her mom and dad."
This story is sad and unpleasant but true, So young people take heed, it could have been you.

Finally...

Praise the Lord!

Finally...at last...sa wakas...anongos to...naksheng ma...our Phase 1 of study is finally finished.Just this morning we had a program that lasted for about an hour as a closing for our first phase. Our teachers had a skit about the open mouthed frog which we enjoyed with their customes and all. One of our classmate played a song from a cd (which she herself sang with another from their praise team). We ended with (of course...kainan) eating haluhalo from a fastfood chain. Well, it's goodbye to our dear teachers. It's now time to wait for our grades. She said that she'd been kind so I guess the grades will turn out ok :)...Thanks be to God!

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make thesivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. Therewill be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph"will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter. In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reachthe stage where! more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben adeterent to akurate speling. just sharing...

...there are things in life that we tend to be attached to but they hinder our growth in our Christian life...and we have to let go of them in order that God may bale to work with and in us...my attention was caught by this poem...that says it all...


Let it go.........

There are people who can walk away from you.

And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk away from you:
let them walk. I don't want you to try to talk another person into
staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to
see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone.

When people can walk away from you let them walk.
Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left.

The Bible said that, they came out from us that it might be made
manifest that they were not for us. For had they been of us, no doubt
they would have continued with us. [1 John 2:19]

People leave you because they are not joined to you.
And if they are not joined to you, you can't make them stay.

Let them go.

And it doesn't mean that they are a bad person it just means that
their part in the story is over. And you've got to know when people's
part in your story is over so that you don't keep trying to raise the
dead.

You've got to know when it's dead.

You've got to know when it's over. Let me tell you something. I've got
the gift of good-bye. It's the tenth spiritual gift, I believe in
good-bye. It's not that I'm hateful, it's that I'm faithful, and I
know whatever God means for me to have He'll give it to me.

And if it takes too much sweat I don't need it. Stop begging people to stay.

Let them go!!

When bad things happen to good people we can be assured that this is God, out to make good people better.

There are so many things in life that make us cry, “Why?” “Why me?” “Why now?” I don’t think we are capable of knowing all the answers to these questions. Our lives fit into a vast and complicated tapestry that only God could unravel, because He’s the one making it. There are things that happen in our lives that are tied in an intricate domino effect to something else happening somewhere else that we may never realize in this life. I’ve heard of enough bizarre connections to know this is happening a lot more than we realize. Chalk it up to God’s amazing creativity as He weaves His will into the events of the world.

Someone gets sick, goes to the hospital, and ends up leading the person in the next bed to the Lord. Not only this, but huge growth issues were established in both of their lives when this happened, and this started a chain of events still going on today. And we want to ask “Why?” I have a feeling God might say, “You don’t have time for that answer. Besides, you haven’t lived long enough to see the end of it. Sorry, but I could never explain it all to you. You just have to trust me.”

Our job is to look at what happens in our lives and learn from what God is trying to teach us. There are no mistakes here. God doesn’t go, “Whoops!” or to the angels: “Okay, what went wrong here? Which one of you guys had Fischer this time?”

Here’s the truth of the matter: “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them” (Romans 8:28 NLT). Which is another way of saying that God’s purpose is in everything that you and I go through, whether we are able to see it or not. And that purpose is producing something good in and through our lives, no matter what happens. Do you believe that?

We all have things in our lives in which it is hard—almost impossible—to see God’s purpose. That doesn’t mean anything except that we are shortsighted and short on faith sometimes. That’s when we need to keep on believing and knowing that God is working things out for the best.

What about you? Is something bad happening to you right now? Think back on a time when you felt like this about something that you now see God had a purpose in, and believe that He is at work, doing the same redemptive act with what you can’t see right now; and believe. Don’t stop believing.

7 Don'ts after meal...

* Don't smoke- Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes, chances of cancer is higher (Ouch!)

* Don't eat fruits immediately - Immediately eating fruits after meals will cause stomach to be bloated with air. Therefore, take fruits 1-2 hrs after meal or 1 hr before meal.

* Don't drink tea - Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will causethe protein content in the food we consumed to be hardened, thus difficult to digest.

* Don't loosen your belt - Loosening the belt after a meal will easily cause the intestines to be twisted & blocked.

* Don't bathe - Bathing will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach.

* Don't walk about - People always say that after a meal walk a hundred steps and youwill live till 99. In actual fact, this is not true. Walking will cause the digestive system to beunable to absorb the nutrition from the food we ate.

* Don't sleep immediately - The food we ate will not be digested properly. Thus will lead to gastric disease & infections.

...this is the second to the last day of our phonetics class (actually our first phase) and we will be having our last test today...this week had been a very hectic (?) one as we had series of tests since Tuesday...and in addition..we will also have a final exam tomorrow in another subject...well..there goes the first days of school and i think i survived it...hurray!!!...well...for all of this...thanksgiving and praise be to our God...He is the reason why i survived and will survive the next days here in school....

My Attorney

This was sent to me thru email...it's a very good story...I hope that you have Jesus as your attorney as well...


After living what I felt was a "decent" life, my time on earthcame to the end.

The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waitingroom of what I thought to be a court house.


The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seatby the defense table.


As I looked around I saw the "prosecutor."


He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me.


He definitely was the most evil person I have ever seen.


I sat down and looked to my left and there sat My Attorney,a kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar tome,I felt I knew Him.


The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in fullflowing robes.


He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room Icouldn't take my eyes off of Him.


As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, "Let us begin."


The prosecutor rose and said,


"My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this manbelongs in hell."


He proceeded to tell of lies that I told, things that I stole,and In the past when I cheated others. Satan told of other horriblePerversions that were once in my life and the more he spoke, thefurtherdown in my seat I sank.


I was so embarrassed that I couldn't look at anyone, even my ownAttorney, as the Devil told of sins that even I had completelyforgottenabout.


As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things aboutme, I was equally upset at My Attorney who sat there silently notOffering any form of defense at all.


I know I had been guilty of those things, but I had done somegood in my life - couldn't that at least equal out part of the harmI'ddone?


Satan finished with a fury and said, "This man belongs in hell,he is guilty of all that I have charged and there is not a personwhocan prove otherwise."


When it was His turn, My Attorney first asked if He mightapproach the bench.


The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan,and beckoned Him to come forward.


As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him inHis full splendor and majesty.


I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesusrepresenting me, my Lord and my Savior.


He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, "Hi,Dad," and then He turned to address the court.


"Satan was correct in saying that this man had sinned,I won't deny any of these allegations.


And, yes, the wage of sin is death, and this man deserves to bepunished."


Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father withoutstretched arms and proclaimed, "However, I died on the cross sothatthis person might have eternal life and he has accepted Me as hisSavior, so he is Mine."


My Lord continued with, "His name is written in the Book of Life,and no one can snatch him from Me.


Satan still does not understand yet.This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy."


As Jesus sat down,


He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said,"There is nothing else that needs to be done."


"I've done it all."


The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down.The following words bellowed from His lips..


"This man is free."


The penalty for him has already been paid in full.


"Case dismissed."


As my Lord led me away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving,"I won't give up, I will win the next one." I asked Jesus as He gavememy instructions where to go next, "Have you ever lost a case?"


Christ lovingly smiled and said,


"Everyone that has come to Me and asked Me to represent themhas received the same verdict as you,

New Version of "Footprints"...from a friend...I enjoyed reading this hope you also willl...

Imagine you and the Lord Jesus are walking down the road together. For much of the way, the Lord's footprints go along steadily, consistently, rarely varying the pace..

But your footprints are a disorganized stream of zigzags, starts, stops, turnarounds, circles, departures, and returns. For much of the way, it seems to go like this, but gradually your footprints come more in line with the Lord's, soon paralleling His consistently. You and Jesus are walking as true friends!

This seems perfect, but then an interesting thing happens: Your footprints that once etched the sand next to Jesus' are now walking precisely in His steps. Inside His larger footprints are your smaller ones, you and Jesus are becoming one. This goes on for many miles, but gradually you notice another change.

The footprints inside the large footprints seem to grow larger. Eventually they disappear altogether. There is only one set of footprints they have become one.This goes on for a long time, but suddenly the second set of footprints is back. This time it seems even worse! Zigzags all over the place. Stops. Starts. Gashes in the sand. A variable mess of prints. You are amazed and shocked.Your dream ends.

Now you pray:"Lord, I understand the first scene, with zigzags and fits. I was a new Christian; I was just learning. But You walked on through the storm and helped me learn to walk with You."

"That is correct."
"And when the smaller footprints were inside of Yours, I was actually learning to walk in Your steps , following You very closely." "Very good.. You have understood everything so far." When the smaller footprints grew and filled in Yours, I suppose that I was becoming like You in every way."

"Precisely."

"So, Lord, was there a regression or something? The footprints separated, and this time it was worse than at first." There is a pause as the Lord answers, with a smile in His voice. "You didn't know? It was then that we danced!"

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: A time to weep, a time to laugh, A time to mourn, and a time to dance. Ecclesiastes 3:1,4.

Funny how you can send a thousand 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny isn't it? Are you laughing? Are you thinking? Spread the Word and give thanks to the Lord for He is good!

~DEATH~
WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO EXPLAIN IT!!!!!

A sick man turned to his doctor,
as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said,
"Doctor, I am afraid to die.
Tell me what lies on the other side."
Very quietly, the doctor said, "I don't know."
"You don't know?
You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"
The doctor was holding the handle of the door;
on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining,
and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room
and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said,
"Did you notice my dog?
He's never been in this room before.

He didn't know what was inside.
He knew nothing except that his master was here,
and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.
I know little of what is on the other side of death,
but I do know one thing...
I know my Master is there and that is enough."

God is watching

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm.
He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods.
He Practiced in the woods, but he could never hit the target. Getting
A little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As he was
Walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck.

Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck
Square in the head, and killed it. He was shocked and grieved.

In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to see
His sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.

After lunch the next day Grandma said, " Sally, let's wash the
Dishes." But Sally said, " Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in
The kitchen." Then she whispered to him, "Remember the duck ?" So
Johnny did the dishes.

Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go
Fishing and Grandma said, " I'm sorry but I need Sally to help make
Supper." Sally just smiled and said," Well that's all right because Johnny told
Me he wanted to help." She whispered again, " Remember the duck?" So Sally
Went fishing and Johnny stayed to help.

After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's,
He finally couldn't stand it any longer. He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, " Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long
You would let Sally make a slave of you."


Thought for the day and every day thereafter?
Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done... And the devil
Keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad
Habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.) ....whatever it is....You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing..... He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that you are forgiven.
He's just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave
Of you.

The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness, He
Not only forgives you, but He forgets . It is by God's grace and
Mercy that we are saved .

News from the province...

Last Saturday, I received a news that the wife of a friend gave birth but the baby is having a problem in breathing so they have to place the baby in an incubator. Just yesterday, I received another text message saying that the baby didn't survived. It was really a sad news for me thinking that it was Father's Day yesterday. The mother is still in the hospital and I hope that they will both get through this by the grace of God. I am thankful that they are both Christians and that we have to cry out to in times of such events and that He knows what He is doing. It is comforting that even if it is unexplainable to us we can trust God for His plans are different from ours. All for now...

Did you know that you can make your dreams come true, like falling in love, becoming rich, staying healthy, if you ask for it by faith, and if you really knew, you'd be surprised by what you could do. But don't believe everything I tell you, until you try it for yourself , if you know someone that is in need of something that I mentioned, and you know that you can help, you'll see that it will be returned in two-fold .

Hei...good day everyone! I just wanted to share how the Lord has been good to me for this past weeks. It's almost a month now since I've been here at Quezon City studying at a seminary school taking up MA in Applied Linguistics. We arrived here in the middle of summer and it's a big transition for me since it's very cold in the place where I came from (La Trinidad, Benguet). Another adjustment I had to undergo is living with six other different personalities but that didn't prove to be so hard after all. Although that remains to be seen. At the moment, I think we are all getting along well. I thank the Lord that I had at least surmounted these struggles for now. I thank the Lord that I am able to reunite with old friends back here and be visited by some others. This helped me a bit not to miss so much the friends that are back home. I also thank the Lord for the new set of friends He allowed me to have during this schoolyear here. I received news from home that my younger brother was able to enroll and I think they just started their classes this week. I thank the Lord for his many provisions back home and to me as well. Another blessing was the celebration we had last Saturday-house dedication and birthday of Kuya Dalmas (in one!). We had fun (eating and laughing) with friends. There are many more things the Lord has done for me (the space here would n't be enough) and I'm thankful to Him for that. To God be the glory!
